[Synopsis]

Kenzo Tokimiya, a well-known special art sculptor in the film industry, has passed away. His grand-daughter, Shuri, has no good memories of Tokimiya's work and attends a farewell party for his fans with mixed feelings. Her classmate Takuya, who is a special effects fan, is also there. After an encounter with Hozumi, a man who was scheduled to appear in the movie “Brush of the God,” which Tokimiya was trying to make, Akari and Takuya enter the same world as in the “Brush of the God” script. It is a world inhabited by giant plants, fluffy but flying beasts, and above all, monsters. However, there is a monster, Yamata-no-orochi (the eight-headed serpent), which is not supposed to appear in “Brush of the God,” and it is determined to destroy everything.

[Background]

Keizo Murase, the brilliant suit maker, stuntman, and special effects specialist in Japanese monster movies, is an undisputed legend whose career spans more than 50 years. after publishing his autobiography in 2015, he was prompted to review a script he wrote while working on Shaw Brothers' “Mighty Peking Man”  (1977), he was prompted to review a script he had written while working on the film. The result is what the 88-year-old director calls his “first and last film.” This flawless, fun, cheesy, thrilling fantasy about a group of middle school students who must enter a parallel universe to save the world from runaway wildlife once again proves the genre's enduring popularity and its intuitive metaphorical power. The film's ingenious metatextual nostalgia re-creates the analog fears and emotions of yesteryear as an affectionate ode to the phantasmagorical wonders of the imagination. It is sure to inspire audiences both old and new.
