[Synopsis]

Over the past three years since the release of the film IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD, this documentary film crews conduct more than 100 interviews and followed the daily life of the director, Sunao Katabuchi.

The production process of IN THIS CORNER (AND OTHER CORNERS) OF THE WORLD, stage appearances at theaters all over the world, interaction with fans who come to the theaters, and the days of uncompromising research and study.  Through IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD, we are able to see the many people living in the "corner" of the world. It is the way of life of Sunao Katabuchi, the director of this film, that he has cherished and confronted each and every one of them.

[Producer's Statement]

Being a film director seems to be a lonely occupation. A new blueprint seems to be constantly being produced in one's mind. It may seem like a subjective job, but it must be an objective job.  We can't literally see what's going on inside Katabuchi's head, but wouldn't it be interesting if we could imagine it from his daily behavior?  It might make me like the film IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD more. So, I started planning to produce this documentary.

"All we can do is make images and sound.” "A film is completed when the audience sees it.”  Katabuchi may have been the first audience of his works.  He talks to many audience, signs autographs, and shakes hands with them. It must be just like talking with other audience.  And when he discovers a new way of looking at movies, he shows his joy without hesitation.

This documentary film is a pleasure and a joy to understand the film "IN THIS CORNER OF THE WORLD" and its director, Sunao Katabuchi. It would be wonderful if it could contribute to such feelings. Including, of course, the new film "IN THIS CORNER (AND OTHER CORNERS) OF THE WORLD".
